Below are some tips to help you achieve your best golf swing:

The Grip

Let’s first focus on your golf grip. To develop your best golf swing, you need to be aware that the grip is the foundation of the golf swing. If your grip is not correct, your entire game is going to be off. So if you want to improve you golf swing lower your golf scores, you are going to have to learn how to correctly grip the golf club.

Pause at the Top

Another quick golf tip that will help you to develop your best golf swing is to pause at the top.  Some golfers swing too quickly and lose any rythym and sequence of your golf swing.  If you swing to quickly you are not alone, many golfers suffer from a golf swing that is too quick.  At the top of your golf swing you need a slight pause just to make sure every part of your backswing is in the correct position before you begin your downswing.  I am not saying that you need to pause for 5 seconds, however you may want to try pausing longer when you are practicing this tip.  You just need a quick pause to get in position to start your downswing.

Over the Top

Another common problem I see with most golfers is the action of “Coming over the top”.  If you are going to develop your best golf swing you must avoid this action.  Swinging over the top can cause a whole host of faults.  The cause of this swinging over the top is due the upper body getting way ahead of the lower body, and the initial move in the downswing is the shoulders.  The correct start of the downswing should be weight shift in the lower body, with a slight dropping of the club and then your body starting to rotate.

If you want to develop the best golf swing you can, follow the above helpful golf tips and tricks.

Why is the golf grip so important?

Why is the golf grip so important to a successful golf shot?

Every great shot starts with the golf grip.  Without the correct grip, a good golf shot is doomed from the beginning.

Having a poor grip will effect everything, such as your set-up, your takeaways, your downswing, and the ability to square your clubface at impact. You should never underestimate the way you grip your golf club and how it affects your swing.

There are three basic grips used in the wonderful world of golf, the overlapping grip, the interlocking grip and the baseball grip. The most common is the overlapping grip. In the overlapping grip, your little finger overlaps the forefinger of your left hand. Place your left hand on your golf club so that the back of your hand is facing the target. Place the shaft of your golf club under the muscular pad at the inside heel of your palm, your golf club shaft runs diagonally across to the top point of your forefinger. Hook your forefinger around the shaft of your golf club and close your hand with the rest of your fingers with your thumb down the top of the shaft. You should have a V formation between the thumb and forefinger, which will point towards the right side of your body. Remember, too tight of a grip will immobilize your wrist and create tension. To complete the overlapping golf grip, place your golf club in your right hand so that the shaft lies across the top joint of the four fingers and directly below the palm. Overlap the little finger of your right hand with the forefinger of your left hand. Bring your right thumb down, somewhat centered on the shaft. Work with your grip and find out what is comfortable for you. The proper golf grip will enable you to have the greatest amount of controlled clubhead speed. Keep your fingers together on the golf club shaft and deliver a square clubface to your golf ball at impact.

The second most popular grip is the interlocking grip.  In the interlocking grip, you interlock your little finger with your forefinger. There are a lot of Professional Golfers who use this golf grip.

The third grip is the baseball grip. I definitely would not recommend the third grip as it restricts the wrist from hinging properly.

Club Selection when Chipping

Most players use one club to for all their chip shots of varying distances. What I want to see is you use different clubs for different distances but with the same swing technique.

If you are very close to the green and the flag is close to you, you should use your pitching wedge. With this club their will be more air on the ball and less roll.  As the flag gets further away, you should use a less lofted club such as a 7 or 6-iron.

The basic chipping technique – hands down on the grip, feet close together, and the ball in between your feet.  Keep your swing small and controlled, make a smooth stroke at the ball.

Now as you need to chip to a flag that is farther away we will do the same swing as before but this time with a less lofted club. Your 6-iron, 7 or even 8 can be used depending on your preference.  So take your stance with feet close together, ball between your feet, and hands low on the grip. This time the ball be in the air less and will roll more to the longer flag. When you have more green to work with this is a method that makes it easier to chip it close.
