How to Repair A Golf Ball Divot on the Green

by Rick on September 6, 2007

Almost every time a golf ball hits the putting green it leaves a mark. Proper golf etiquette is to repair any golf divot on the green even if it is not one you created.

The first thing that needs to be done is to look for any divots, especially in the area of your golf ball.

Next use either a divot tool or even a golf tee to fix the divot.

divotright.jpgYou fix the divot by inserting your divot tool, at a 45-degree angle, into the outer edge of the divot. Gently push the divot tool towards the center of the divot. Do Not push down on the divot tool and try todivotwrong.jpg raise the divot. Remove the divot tool and repeat on the other four sides of the divot.

The last step is to pat down the repaired area until the mark is as flat and smooth as the rest of the putting green.

Following the above steps ensures the smoothest putting surface possible for you and any golfers that follow you.
