Do you have trouble with your distance on windy days? If so, I think I have some great tips for you to try.
The key to playing well on windy days is controlling the flight of the ball. I know your probably thinking I already knew that. Well keep reading…
Here is a tip for club selection on windy days: use more club in a headwind and less in a tailwind.
It is important to note that you do not need to make any radical changes to your golf swing. all you need to do is make some minor adjustments. Here are several keys to hitting when it’s windy:
- Maintain a smooth rhythm to your swing.
- Focus on transferring your weight correctly.
- Swing more softly than normal—even with a head win. You do not want to tense up.
- Concentrate on making a complete turn.
- Stay low to the ground in the hitting zone.
- Keep the hands ahead of the club. This will deloft the club, allowing for a lower trajectory of the golf ball.
- If you are hitting into a headwind, play the ball back in your stance.
- If you are hitting into a tailwind, do the opposite. Play the ball forward in your stance and hit it higher for more distance.
- If you are hitting into a crosswind, you want to use the wind to land the ball soflty. You want the ball to land and then roll to your target.
Make sure you practice hitting lower trajectory shots at the driving range on windy days.
