Driving Range Tips

When most amatuer golfers go to the driving range all they want to do is see how far they can hit their driver.  This is great if you’re going to the range to just work on your driver, but there are better ways to make use of your time at the driving range.

Try out these tips the next time you go to the driving range.

  1. Start off hitting your short wedges (either your sand wedge or pitching wedge) then work up from your 9 iron through your lowest iron.  Your wedges are easy to hit and will help you find your swing and loosen you up.
  2. Once you’ve warmed up with your irons and you feel comfortable with your swing, take a few swings with the driver.  You need tp analyze how you hit the first couple of golf balls.  If you notice that you’re slicing or hooking the ball, use this time to work on the techniques that will help you fix your problem.
  3. Don’t just mindlessly hit all of the balls in your bucket.  This is the biggest waste of time and money.  Pretend you’re actually on the golf course and pick specific targets for each of your shots.  Stand behind the ball and work on your pre-shot routine before each swing.
  4. Make notes of how far you are hitting each golf club.  This will help you the next time you are on the course and will give your a better idea of what you are capable of with each of your clubs.
